Arya-Nejad Snatches Iran Chess Championship Top Title

TEHRAN Hossein Arya-Nejad from Gilan Province participating in the 14th nationwide chess contests held in commemoration of late Engineer Hezar-Jeribi in Shahid Avini hall of Sports Cultural House, grabbed the top title.

In the competitions attended by 220 chess players from 28 provinces, Arya-Nejad bagged 9.5 points and stood first while Hamidreza Mohammadi from Isfahan Province and Kazem Bakhtiari from Gilan Province taking 9 and 8 points respectively finished second and third.

Mohsen Tavakkolian and Morteza Mahjoub from Tehran Province and Alireza Fanaei of Isfahan Province with 8 points each stood fourth to sixth respectively.

The chess players clashed in 11 rounds and according to Swiss style, IRNA reported.

The closing ceremony of the clashes was held in Shahid Avini hall, during which Kayhaei, head of Technical Committee of Iran's Chess Federation (ICF), and Ghalomrezaei, the managing director of Sports Cultural House, awarded 20 chess players.
